Internal Combustion Engines - Forbidden Forever!!!

Sunday June 28th marked a historical step forward: not only did the central Brussels pedestrian zone double in size but in a revolutionary move, it engulfed the central boulevards themselves. Richard Harris joins the crowds, is amazed by the beautiful movements of the 30 foot wicker man and speaks with Els Ampe, Brussels City Alderwoman for Mobility and Public Works. Now we just need a little patience to get through the 8 month trial period and then the 18 months construction as hundreds and hundreds of trees are planted, the sidewalk and street surfaces are redone and the new street furniture is put into place. In the meantime, cleverly designed temporary inexpensive street furniture and games will keep us occupied as will a whole summer and fall's worth of free music, dance and theatre performances. www.placeaupieton.bruxelles.be www.voetgangerkoning.brussel.be
