What role does technology play in your life?

In the song Metal Machine by Jon Gibson, we hear about a guy, who is experiencing how technology plays a bigger and bigger role in his life to the point where it actually takes control of it and leaves him helpless at the mercies of a mechanic life-form, which he doesn't like or understand.

What role do you think technology plays in your life? It's all over the place, and we cannot turn the development around. Are you predominantly positive or negative in the face of all this?
