2015 Emmys: Best and worst dressed

Sep 23, 2015, 07:50 AM

Oh, the Emmy’s. We saw Tracy Morgan return, Amy Schumer kind of sober (maybe the girl who did her smoky eye can shed more light on this … ) and we saw Olive Kitteridge win every single award. Going to have to use Andy Samberg’s HBOGo account to catch up with that last one. Also let’s all give a shoutout to Jon Hamm for finally having won an Emmy and just because he wins at life in general. The 2015 Emmys, everyone. But, most importantly, here is the Daily Style team’s best and worst dressed.

Best: Kiernan Shipka

How many times can you ask yourself, “Why am I not Kiernan Shipka?” in one night? The question appears every time the daughter of Don Draper graces us with her presence on the red carpet. Not only does the 15-year-old have the eternal love of Jon Hamm and the most impeccable posture, but her red carpet style is unmatched — even by those twice her age. She somehow never fails to find the perfect combination of young and fresh while making her transition to adulthood seem effortless. Her Emmys look paired skinny black pants and pointed pumps under a Dior Couture embroidered yellow off-the-shoulder tunic (as one does). She couldn’t look more youthful and elegant if she tried. Which she didn’t, because she’s Kiernan Shipka. – Mara Maclean

Best: Lady Gaga

While she is sure to let her freak flag fly during this fall’s “AHS: Hotel,” on Sunday the pop star opted for old-Hollywood glamour with a black, one-shouldered Brandon Maxwell gown. The flirtation between her platinum hair, dark dress, pale complexion and dark tattoos create a look that is simultaneously remarkable and understated. – Christian Kennedy

Best: Tatiana Maslany

Before going all rogue on the desolate red carpet, staggering around with a metal detector and a questionable can of beans, Maslany stunned in a white Bouchra Jarrar Couture pantsuit with a plunging neckline. Award shows are not just an event anymore for Hollywood’s finest to tout around in pretty dresses, but they are a space to celebrate talent, make fun of Donald Trump and of course, an opportunity to experiment and dress comfortably. I salute the pantsuits; keep them coming, Hollywood. – Mariam Sheikh

BEST: Sarah Paulson

It’s 2015 and the highest of praise today means being a fashion designer’s muse, and showing it off on the red carpet. Sarah Paulson stunned in a shimmering shoulder peeping, navy Prabal Gurung gown — of which the designer posted THREE Instagrams. Custom-made, sequined and structured, the frock stood out as a sleek spectacle. – Caroline Filips

Worst: Alan Cumming

It would appear that Alan Cumming came to the show in character — we aren’t sure which character, but it was not a well-dressed one. His grey suit cannot seem to decide between a contemporary look or vintage. Ruffles. Too big here; too tight there. And topped off with an umbrella and crocs, it’s the look we can’t forget, but desperately want to. – Christian Kennedy

Worst: Heidi Klum

There are two things that come to mind when I think of Heidi Klum and award shows. The first is that never-ending thought of “Well, why are you here?” and the second is that, sometimes, I feel like Heidi Klum is just an evil genius who is constantly testing out looks for her yearly Halloween bash. I really hope my second conspiracy theory is true because if that yellow, feathery Atelier Versace of a not-so-hot-mess is anything more than her attempt at channeling Big Bird this Halloween, then someone needs their rehab intervention A$AP Rocky. – Mariam Sheikh

Best: Taraji P. Henson

The “Empire” star doesn’t only make the best-dressed list, it’s quite possible she topped it. Draped in a show stopping, black Alexander Wang dress she exuded fire and effortless cool simultaneously. The detailed contours of the dress accentuated Henson’s figure and the silver chain straps added just enough “Cookie.” –Christian Kennedy

Worst: Taryn Manning

If she was aiming to channel dementors in her goth-phase-inspired dress, she excelled. Complete with sleeves of the bat wing variety and a too-short train that looked more like a puddle, Manning somehow managed to fuck up a black dress. Tragic, Taryn, just tragic. –Caroline Filips

Best: Kids of “Modern Family”

While they (finally) lost out on Outstanding Comedy, the children of ABC’s hit sitcom displayed an array of enviable looks. Sarah Hyland wore a form-hugging maroon gown by Zac Posen with her hair, styled in a long, wavy bob that emphasized the off-the-shoulder straps fluidly. Ariel Winter oozed confidence in her red Romona Keveza gown. The asymmetrical neckline gave her look just the right amount of pizzazz. And finally, Nolan Gould could not have looked more grown up in his Brooks Brothers suit. The black hemlines on the white jacket bring what might’ve been a mix-matched look into a complete ensemble.
