Community and compassion follow tragedy in McBride

Five people are dead following an avalanche in the Renshaw area east of McBride on Friday. It's not the first time the mountains of the Robson Valley have claimed lives. In 2009, Lori Wagner's husband was killed in an avalanche in the same area.
Even though she didn't live there, the small town banded together to support her. "The McBride community enveloped us in compassion," she says. "It was just a sense of family."
She now lives in McBride, and is hoping to extend the same compassion. "I need to step up," she says. Listen to her interview with Robert Doane in which she shares advice on what helped her, and what people can do to help those who need it today.
A fund has been set up at the local pub and hotel in McBride for first responders, SAR volunteers, and the victims' families.
