an Exerpt of Carmina Burana, performed by a choir of which the illustrious @ericmbourgeois is a member

Today I had the pleasure of attending a thoroughly spectacular performance of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. This famous cantata, which was composed in 1935, is a musical setting of twenty-four poems which were written by German monks in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. They discuss everything from drinking to gluttony to lust to the fickleness of fortune. Very monastic, eh? :-) Most of the poetry was composed in Latin, but some of it was written in High German or Provencal. The work was originally intended to be accompanied by an orchestra, but as you will hear, this particular performance features two pianists instead. I wasn't sure what I would think of that when I first found out about it; I tend to be a purist when it comes to such things. I was very pleasantly surprised though. They had to play some incredibly convoluted music, poor things, and they pulled it off almost flawlessly! I only heard one mistake in the whole hour-long piece. Of course, as you will also hear, the music also features percussion... Watch out, it's noisy! #CarminaBurana #live #music #Orff
