How To Win: Eamonn Coghlan. Champion Runner

Mar 07, 2016, 04:36 PM

Eamonn Coghlan is a world champion runner and three time olympian, specialising in middle distance track events. Born in Drimnagh, Eamonn went on to achieve an athletic scholarship in the United States, and ran a sub 4 minute mile, setting an Irish record at 22 years of age.

His successes over his running career gave him the nicknames, "Chairman of the boards" "Master of the mile" and even after competitive retirement, he was the first man over 40 to run a sub 4 minute mile.

In this short clip, Eamonn talks about the importance of his experience in Villanova as an athlete in the American collegiate system, the options for young athletes now, and what he would do for athletics in Ireland if he had a magic wand.

How to Win is a TV documentary produced by the award winning Athena Media team and it will screen later in 2016 on Setanta Sports. It is made with the funding support of the BAI and the Irish TV licence. The production team is Amy Millar, Helen Shaw and John Howard.
