The national parliament has denied reports that it has declined to discuss the supplementary budget for the increment of salaries for civil servants.

Speaker of Parliament, Manasseh Magok Rundial denies receiving salary increment proposal from the council of ministers.

Parliament has invited “the ministers of economic clusters” to take part in a meeting on the economic crisis affecting South Sudan scheduled for Monday 14th.

“We refute rumors that parliament is sitting on payment of new salaries. Totally, [it] has no ground, [it] is baseless. No supplementary [budget] brought to us. Parliament has not been informed about the increase of salaries. Parliament will discuss on Monday the economic crisis in the whole country… the ministers of economic clusters have been invited to attend. As soon as parliament receives the supplementary budget from the executive we will do it promptly and swiftly. We will do it if it means finishing it in one day. We are at the service of our people and therefore we can never hide something which is brought here by the executive. What is our interest in trying to hiding something which is brought to us? All these are baseless,” speaker Magok told journalists today in Juba.

In January this Year, the national council of ministers passed a 300 per cent increment for low-income staff.

Officials said the salary increase would take effect from last month’s salary, which is yet to be paid.
