Cornea Donation - Giving the gift of sight

The UK Organ Donor Register reveals people are least prepared to donate their eyes compared to any other organ.

11% of donors tick the ‘opt out’ box for their eyes, compared to less than one percent who refuse to donate their kidneys.

The cornea, the clear front part of the eye, has no blood supply so is the only tissue many cancer patients can donate.

Carlie Foster visited one woman who is suffering from lung cancer and is in the final weeks of her life. Ruth Ballin from North London is determined to give another person the chance to see again.
