RAT RACE

There’s Roland and Ronald and Rambo and Ross
all of them eager and ready to cross
the finish line first, this bright Thursday in June
and win the great prize of a trip to the moon.

With muscles contracted and earlets alert,
just waiting to hear the start gun of old Bert,
and there it goes, “Boom!” and they’re off on the track,
all racing forward, not one looking back.

Little feet fly as they hurtle along,
encouraged by cheers and shouts of the throng
of speckled rattators all dying to see
which ratlet the winner of Rat Race will be.

The four little souls each think they will win
and leave all the rest with their heads in a spin,
and what a surprise as they come round the bend,
they all win the trip to the moon in the end.
