18,000 South Sudanese fleeing violence arrive in Uganda

The number of refugees fleeing fighting in Juba, South Sudan to Uganda has reached 18,000 – eighteen thousand people, confirming the latest influx of South Sudanese seeking safety in the neighboring countries.

New arrivals in Uganda and an updated data from the United nations High Commission for Refugees indicates 16 – thousand refugees have been registered over the last five days alone.

UNHCR communication officer in Uganda, Charles Yaxley, told Radio Miraya that majority of the new arrivals are women and children from Eastern and Central Equatorial region.

He spoke with Nelson Lwak in this interview
