Report from day 4 of the 3rd Test between England and Sri Lanka at Lords.

Alex Hales fell six run short of his first Test century, but England remain in control after day 4 against Sri Lanka at Lords.

Hales was controversially bowled by a no-ball from Nuwan Pradeep, a decision umpire Rod Tucker apologised to visiting captain Angelo Matthews for. That it couldn't be reviewed must be looking at.

Sri Lanka closed 32-0 chasing an an ambitious 362 to win, after day three started with rain, then England building their lead in the late afternoon.

Nightwachman Steven Finn fell cheaply to Eranga whilst Hales inched closer, falling for 94, lbw trying to work Matthews to leg. Disappointment, but another impressive knock.

Alastair Cook made 49 not out batting outside the top 3 for the first time in Tests, surviving a big lbw shout against the wiley old fox Herath, who found good turn.

Ali fell to Eranga for single figures, and Cook hit a rare 6 just before declaring.

Sri Lankan openers Karunaratne and Silva did well to reach stumps unscathed - England return tomorrow chasing a 3-0 series win.

Michael McCann, Lords.
