bbc5live 30/11/16 Emma Barnett i/v David Mellor on #FAabuse - contains nuts, rudeness and some good points

Nov 30, 2016, 10:52 PM

The FAabuse inquiry is under question because of the appointment of Kate Gallafent who is known to the FA.

Our submission to the Govt Consultation on Reporting Child Abuse (13/10/16) - https://goo.gl/pEbq9L - that addresses most of the questions raised in the interview.

In summary Mellor said:

  1. Appoint a figure like John Stevens to head an inquiry, He was a former senior policeman (Agree)
  2. Have external independent staff to go to clubs to audit their child related operations (Agree)
  3. He dismisses the use of IICSA for football (Disagree but only just)
  4. In Mellor's opinion - the priority should be current and future child protection arrangements. (Disagree) 5 He wants clubs certificated (Disagree - introduce MR legislation that will change culture)
  5. The power of coaches is a risk (Hardly new and known)
  6. Background checks vital (And on subcontractors - but these have been decimated by the coalition Govt in the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012.)
  7. Duty on Club not to conceal abuse (Mandatory reporting which Con Govt doesn't want will address the dysfunctional culture around child protection. We are out of step with the rest of the world https://goo.gl/SABRJZ
  8. FA Cannot be trusted to sort this this FAabuse crisis.
