16 – Days of activism: WFP Puts Gender Equality into the spotlight

The Women of South Sudan, just like their counterparts on the African continent are the backbone of the agricultural sector. They are the central pillars to sustaining food supplies both domestically and nationally.

But widespread gender based violence can actually affect the women’s ability to produce food and in turn impact food security.

The World Food Program family in South Sudan has launched the Stand for Gender Equality’ movement in the country, as part of the 16-Days of activism campaign. The movement aims to encourage men to support gender equality of stand up against gender based violence.

George Forminyen, WFP communications officer in #SouthSudan, explains why it is important for the men to stand up for gender equality.
