IICSA Seminar 12/4/17: Whistleblowing segment lasted all of six minutes before straying onto other matters

Apr 14, 2017, 08:39 AM

Whistle-blowing has a role to play at the margins of future child protection when newly introduced MR law is introduced to child protection in Regulated Activities. Reliance on whistle-blowing fails good staff, children and their parents. It's use also flies in the face of empirical research from Australia which demonstrates the importance and effectiveness of the foundation of mandatory reporting law in these settings.

Noticeably, it only took the seminar 6 minutes to stray away from whistle-blowing onto unrelated matters. Six minutes during which the key reasons for whistle-blowing's inability to deliver culture change in child protection went unmentioned.

Mandate Now will soon be commenting further on this aspect of the seminar.
