UNMISS Chief: “Every democracy needs to protect Freedom of the Press”

The Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan is stressing the importance of free media in building strong democracies.

“Transparency is the best way of exposing corruption and wrongdoing,” says David Shearer.

In his message on World Press Freedom Day, Mr. Shearer said the media is a vital contributor in fighting corruption, describing the media as “sunlight that disinfects and shines a light.”
