The practice has been banned in the EU since 1997 but in America they still chemical wash their poultry to reduce the risk of salmonella. The international trade secretary Liam Fox won't say if he would eat it himself -- but he has downplayed talk that a future US-UK trade deal after Brexit could be threatened by arguments over chlorinated chicken imports. The EU bans imports on health grounds but free market groups want a rethink. Downing Street says any trade deal must work for both farmers and consumers.
