We Write The Songs

We Write The Songs

Who bears the burden, who bears the blame? Those who walk the earth with only their name. While others wear a mask to cover their shame; But we write the songs, said the people. Yes, we write the songs, said the people.

History’s mantle covers their crimes, Raises a statue, those eulogies sublime. But we know the earth will be ours for all times, For we write the songs, said the people. We write the songs, said the people.

They write the laws, with all their fatal flaws; With their power, their parliament, their steeple; But we keep the trust, and are faithful to the cause And we write the songs, said the people. We write the songs, said the people.

We may be the battered, the broken, the meek; Who stand for the truth, though it’s fatal, For they want to silence the words that we speak As we write the songs, said the people. As we write the songs said the people.

We know the worth of everyman’s cause; We take our stand with the poor and the lost; In the scripture of the heart, there’s no get-out clause And there’s none in the song of the people. There’s none in the song of the people.

O! We write the songs, said the people!
