UN Envoy Nicholas Haysom: There must be clearly defined goals for the various peace initiatives on the table for #SouthSudan

The United Nations Special Envoy for Sudan and South Sudan says there must be clearly defined goals for the various peace initiatives on the table for South Sudan.

In a briefing to the UN Security Council, Ambassador Nicholas Haysom said the national dialogue, SPLA intra-party reunification efforts by Uganda President Yoweri Museveni and the IGAD-led revitalization process should be clearly structured to complement the peace agreement.

Mr. Haysom said the initiatives should not ‘clash’ or ‘undermine’ the other, but rather complement an inclusive and critical peace process.

The UN Ambassador also decried the continued conflict, describing the sporadic fighting as a “battlefield of fortunes.”
