Stigma and unequal treatment a major contributor to mental health illnesses in South Sudan

As the World observes Mental Health day today, a mental health expert is asking the public not to stigmatize mentally ill patients.
Dr Atong Ayuen, a consultant psychiatrist and Director for mental health at Juba Teaching Hospital says people with mental illness need the care and comfort of the people around them.
Dr Ayuel says family and community members should identify cases and encourage them to seek professional help at Juba Teaching Hospital or the nearest health facility.
