Sinn Fein Belfast City Councillor Jim McVeigh has said he "will be requesting the Easter Lily be on sale next Easter" at City Hall.
Easter Lily badges are worn to commemorate those who died during the Easter Rising but they are also worn by republicans to remember IRA members killed before and during the Troubles.
Mr McVeigh says he wants to see the republican symbol sold in the same way as the Poppy and is quoted by the Belfast Live website as saying this is "an equality issue."
