Plans to name a Co Down leisure centre put on hold over row about naming it after local war hero

The naming of a £30 million leisure centre in Newtonards is on hold. Unionists want to name it after Blair Mayne - a soldier praised for his role in World War Two. Mayne also represented Ireland in rugby. But the SDLP oppose the naming - saying it will alienate nationalists. Alliance have said leisure centres should be neutral spaces. So is this a genuine attempt to honour a sporting and war hero? Or an attempt to mark out territory? This is a story in the Belfast Telegraph today.
