Senator Lee and Secretary Salazar on federal lands for oil shale (first of two)

Sen Lee asks Secretary Salazar about the relationship between gas prices and US oil production, and the Programmatic EIS regarding use of federal lands for oil shale production. The previous 2008 PEIS had identified federal lands to be leased for oil shale and tar sands, while the new PEIS would limit land area by 75%. Senator Lee asked for assurance that previous leases would not be removed. Secretary Salazar asserts that there are "huge unanswered questions" regarding water use for oil shale and wants to prevent "wholesale giveaway" of federal land leases for oil shale.
