A medical expert working with the World Health Organisation office in South Sudan is advocating for a national action plan to make physical activity a routine program in the workplace, schools and within communities.
Dr. Mogga Joseph, the W-H-O officer in charge of Non-Communicable diseases says inactivity raises risks of cardiovascular disease, hypertension and diabetes, as well as breast and colon cancer.
His warning comes on the heels of a newly released UN study which warns that physical inactivity is putting the health of more than 1.4 billion people worldwide at risk.
Dr. Mogga says policies encouraging exercise and more activity among South Sudanese would save lives.
