Experts discuss why South Sudan needs a Law and Policy on Internal Displacement

[...] "Internally Displaced Persons  - IDPs are often persons whose needs require a total focus on all functionalities, therefore laws and policies on IDPs provide a framework for preventing, protecting & resolving internal displacement," says  Dr Chaloka Beyani, former UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights of Internally displaced persons. 

The guiding principles for internal displacements was introduced in 1998 to protect people who are displaced from their homes either by natural disasters or conflict.

The Guiding Principles have become the basis for laws and policies in at least 16 countries globally, with Kenya being the only African signatory.
