Western Meadowlark in Carman Valley

Mar 11, 2012, 02:51 AM

This was my very first recording on this trip out to the Sierra Nevada's. Everything was so new that I did not even know this was a Western Meadowlark -- whose song I would come to love -- I just knew it was beautiful. The acoustics in Carman Valley, here in the upper meadow, are amazing, with just a touch of an echo quality. The bird sang from atop a tree on the edge of the upper meadow which was very wet. There is a bit of airplane noise, but it is a pretty good recording. In the background you can hear another Western Meadowlark (and many other birds including red-winged blackbird and even sandhill cranes). This was recorded June 13, 2011 at 6:55 am with a Fostex FR2 and Sennheiser ME66.
