Using Google Maps for Road Trips

Season 1, Episode 4,   Dec 13, 2018, 12:52 PM

Welcome to the fourth episode of the Mark and Embark Podcast by ScoutMyTrip. The host for this season is the co-founder - Vineet Rajan.

In this episode we will talk about using mapping technologies like Google Maps and ScoutMyTrip for making navigation on a road trip easier and less trouble free.

In this episode we talk about:

  • Issues faced when navigating using Google Maps or other mapping technologies.

  • Solutions to the issues faced

I had mentioned that I would be adding show notes for a couple of tricks with Google Maps. These are described below.

Instructions for downloading regions on Google Maps

  •  Select the menu on the top left corner (Three lines)
  •  Click on "Select your own map"
  •  Pinch / Zoom to select the appropriate region and click on 'Download'
For saving route on the home screen (Google Maps)

  • Keep the route open on the screen (Don't enter navigation screen)

  • Click on the three dots on the top right corner

  • Select 'Add route to Home Screen'

I have mentioned that Google Maps allow 8 points on a single map, this is excluding the start and end points. So considering that, it would be 10. ScoutMyTrip allows 25 points on a single map compared to 10 that Google offers. To start doing that you'll need to head to the road trip planner and simply enter and start and end locations.

There is more you can do on the planner, and I would request you to check out our video tutorials.
