I think the examples isn't right. I think with big film like that it's not just about great ideas. There's money involved and marketing and more money and more marketing, etc. Some sort of filmmaking by committee.
Overall I think you're right clients can offer good design suggestions. Especially with existing websites. They might have gotten emails, or indications user dislike particular sections, etc. Most likely they have put thought in it to find a solution.
It's downright arrogant to think only we designers have the solutions. Throw out your ego and take the client seriously. It certainly improves the relationship with the client (that's my experience) and the quality of the product improves. But it's certainly something you have to learn as a designer.
