Human tooth enamel and dentist's hand drill

Mar 22, 2012, 04:03 PM

This recording was created by attaching a contact microphone to some de-accessioned dentures containing human teeth, and then drilling into them using a 200 year old dentist's hand drill. The drill is surprisingly sharp even after 200 years, and is one of the objects in the collection of the British Dental Association Museum. It is called a Finzi, after the inventor who originally designed it, and you can read about it here: http://www.nature.com/bdj/journal/v205/n6/covers/index.html
