Deputy Managing Director - Jackie Scully

For episode 35, I’m joined by the awe-inspiring Deputy Managing Director, Jackie Scully.

Jackie breakdowns what her role, as Deputy Managing Director for Think Publishing, involves: a lot! No day is the same - from research & innovation to the organisation's profitability, through to content strategy for clients. She is also responsible for leading & motivating the team and talks about how important it is to manage with kindness and compassion and to support colleagues to find their edges - even if that means they may leave the organisation as their skills and ambitions grow as a result.

She also shares her personal journey of being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 32 and how running 10km, at the end of her last chemo treatment, gave her focus and purpose. She hasn’t stopped pushing herself ever since! She has run marathons (even on her wedding day!) and trekked The Great Wall of China. Now five years clear of cancer, she has set herself five EPIC challenges. One she completed the weekend following this interview - a 66-mile walk, non-stop through the night around the Isle of Wight. The next one, in June, is a half iron-woman, she is then following that with climbing Ben Nevis, an ultra-marathon and then cycling coast to coast - all to raise money for charity! Towards the end of this year, she has plans for a non-stop 10-hour Spin session! I can’t deny I’m tempted by the Spinathon, which is baffling as I’ve never been to a Spin class in my life! Jackie does that to you - she has vigour that is infectious as it is inspiring!
