The season-defining story from each of Europe's top five leagues

May 20, 2019, 04:43 PM

And now for something completely different (sort of).

This week's Squawka Talker tackles one of the biggest questions in football right now: how does Pep Guardiola make Manchester City's history-makers even better?

BUT, looking beyond the Prem, each member of the team has been assigned one of the other divisions among Europe's top five leagues. Their task? To pick out the biggest story of the 2018/19 season in the Bundesliga, Serie A, La Liga and Ligue 1.

Against all odds, one team member avoided making everything about Barcelona. Elsewhere, someone cheated and picked three stories, while another just spent way too much time on Wikipedia. Listen to this week's bumper edition (we overran on time again), where all will be revealed.

00:01:46 - 00:26:20: How does Pep Guardiola replace Vincent Kompany and take Man City forward?

"Man City need Liverpool to become a big club"

00:26:30 - 00:36:40 Bundesliga: Bayern's insane streak lives to fight another day

"Everybody missed their chance before Bayern's rebuild"

00:36:48 - 00:51:42 - Serie A: Europe's reigning hipster club is on the verge of UCL qualification

"He's created more chances than any player in Europe's top five leagues."

00:51:57 - 01:04:33 - La Liga: How one ex-Liverpool flop became one of Spanish football's biggest heroes

"Sometimes you just can't put a price on being a local hero."

01:04:51 - END - Ligue 1: Why do they call it 'the farmer's league'? Because that's where all the best players are produced

"He's the most statistically fascinating player in Europe's top five leagues from 2018-19."
