Investigation launched into attack on UN peacekeepers and civilians in Abyei

An investigation has been launched into the killing of a UN peacekeeper and six civilians, in the disputed region of Abyei at the South Sudan - Sudan border. 
 
Unknown gunmen opened fire as peacekeepers were on patrol in the market of Amiet, North of Abyei on Tuesday, killing an Ethiopian peacekeeper and the civilian victims, including a child.  
 
A spokesperson in the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), Daniel Adekera, says the mission leadership met with officials of the Abyei administrative area yesterday to establish the details of the attack.  
 
Adekera says the UN mission will continue to deliver on its mandate, despite the attack.
