The World Food Program has started an initiative to support local farmers to produce food for aid operations.

WFP's Representative and Country Director Matthew Hollingworth, says under the program,  farmers will be supported  with tractors and  seeds  to encourage them to produce enough food which can be delivered to other parts of the country  to fight hunger.

Mr. Hollingworth  added that WFP aims to procure over 40,000 tons of  food produced locally.
The WFP Country Director says  increasing robbery on humanitarian convoys including  check points  is affecting humanitarian work in the country
“What’s worrying now though is that we are also seeing increasing banditry on the road, checkpoints coming out, illegal taxation, robberies on our convoys and when that happens, it means it’s much harder to do our job. So, we are working with the government and with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, with the RRC to really attempt to again resolves those issues.”
Mr Hollingworth spoke to Radio Miraya's Sebit William on the Miraya Breakfast Show.
