A civil society organization has welcomed the long-awaited dissolution of the national legislative assembly and called for its swift reconstitution. Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization, Edmund Yakani, says the delay in the dissolution of the assembly has put many activities on a stand-still which include budget and security. Mr. Yakani appealed to the presidency to form the Transitional National Legislative Assembly within a week.

Over the weekend, the state-owned, SSBC, announced the dissolution of parliament by President Salva Kiir. According to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan, the TNLA is to be extended from 400 to 550 members.
