TNLA urged to prioritize national budget and implementation of the peace agreement

A member of the newly formed transitional national legislative assembly says the national budget and implementation of the peace agreement should be top priority during the assembly’s deliberations.

Hon. Paul Yoane Bonju says the appointment of members of parliament comes at a time when a lot of pending issues need to be deliberated on.

Yesterday, President Salva Kiir announced names of people appointed to the new national legislative assembly.

The MPs were nominated from all parties signatory to the peace agreement, including the SPLM, SPLM-IO, the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), the Other Political Parties (OPP) and the Former Detainees.

According to the peace agreement, the revitalized Transitional National Legislative Assembly should consist of 332 members from the SPLM, 128 members from SPLM-IO, while the South Sudan Opposition Alliance-SSOA, will nominate 50 members, the Other Political Parties (OPP) 30 members, and the Former Detainees will have 10.
