Season 1, Episode 5,   Oct 23, 2020, 11:00 AM

In this podcast Simon and Mark Williams take the temperature on the Akti Miaouli as Simon shares his take on how Greek ship owners are approaching the decarbonisation agenda. They compare the environmental credentials of LNG, hydrogen and other fuels against low-sulphur marine gasoil and consider the balance between economic and ecological factors in the shipping investment decision. The two former HSBC colleagues compare notes on the balance of responsibilities between ship owners and charterers for driving forward to a post-hydrocarbon shipping industry.

Simon is well known around the maritime world especially as one of those braver Englishmen who has made a successful shipping career in Athens.
Simon began his career in Liverpool working for Harrison Line before moving to London to work as a sale and purchase broker first for Seasure then HSBC Shipping Services. In 2008 he set up the HSBC Shipping Services office in Athens. After a stint back in London in 2012 he moved to Greece permanently and became a partner at Ursa Shipbrokers.
Simon is passionate about Maritime education. In his spare time he lectures at the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, as well as being a guest lecturer at the University of Piraeus, the Athens University of Economics and Business, and City University London.
