The medical charity - Médecins Sans Frontières or MSF is launching a new initiative to prevent malaria in Aweil town – Northern Barh el Ghazal state. The ‘Seasonal Malaria Chemo-prevention’ is a public health intervention that seeks to reduce the incidence of malaria among more than 25,000 children in Aweil under the age of five. The children will be given regular anti-malaria medications during the rainy season, when the risk of malaria transmission is at its highest. According to MSF, more that 50 % of consultations at health facilities in Aweil during the rainy season are due to malaria. MSF medical coordinator, Buai Tut Chol, told Radio Miraya's Susan Dokolo, that the project will start on the 1st of July.
