With Christmas only days away, Immortan Hoof stops by the store with a special video from his private collection: the 1987 ABC broadcast of “A Muppet Family Christmas”.
Christmas is almost here! And you know what that means…TV Specials! And what better way to celebrate a pop culture tradition then by busting out a dusty old videotape and reliving the magic that is the 1987 ABC broadcast of A Muppet Family Christmas!
I’m your host, Dave, and joining me as we bask in the warmth of old school toy commercials and Jim Henson goodness are fellow cinephiles and Muppet-heads Ryan and Nick (aka, Immortan Hoof - Ruler of the Wasteland). Not included in this episode is Shift Lead Mike, who foolishly went shopping for last minute gifts in the middle of a blizzard.
Listen as we discuss the rampant commercialization of Christmas, which includes disturbing Sony ads, elephant shower accessories, and foreboding toy store slogans; things get creepy as a sleazy Turkey schmoozes his way onto Gonzo’s girlfriend; and finally, A Muppet Family Christmas gives the Avengers a run for their money as we witness the epic team up of the Sesame Street gang and the Muppets (prepare for spelling and counting jokes…).
