My name is Bob Evered, I was born 20th November 1938. I was actually born in General Hospital the other side of the River Avon, so by birth I am a Bristolian. Then I was back to Wraxall and Victoria Cottages where I lived for the first 25-6 years of my life. And my father was a painter and decorator on the Tyntesfield Estate from the time – I guess when he was 12 years old until he was 65. What was your father’s name? Walter John – always known as Jack. My Grandfather was known as William Samuel Morley Evered and he was the waterworks engineer on Tyntesfield Estate, he looked after the Pumping Station down at Watercress Farm and looked after everything else on the water systems at Tyntesfield and I still remember now, where he used to just chunter around the estate in an old Morris 8 that he had, a red and black one. Our family lived in Victoria Cottages all their life, he was there, my grandmother, she died in about 1937 the year before I was born, fortunately my grandfather died in 1945 when I was about 6 or 7. He worked up until the time he died. In the front garden we had a weather station, which showed him the amount of rain and everything that we had, they kept records of and Albert Wyatt who lived next door, he was his –sort of assistant, and he took over afterwards. William Young Evered, in years later he also worked at Tyntesfield and he worked in the gardens, in fact he was working in the market gardens here at the time of his death. Did you have freedom in the estate? Yes, completely and utterly, anywhere we wanted to go, not right into the big house mind you, we kept away from there, within reason!
