GARETH KAVANAGH – THE UBER FAN BEHIND CUTAWAY COMICS, VWORP
VWORP AND MUCH MUCH MORE…
Our guest for The Bunker’s inaugural episode is the founder and Creative
Director of Cutaway – Gareth Kavanagh. Business consultant turned publisher,
Manchester-based Gareth has been at the forefront of Doctor Who fandom for
decades, and first became well known as the man, with designer Colin
Brockhurst, behind gorgeously glossy fanzine Vworp Vworp. Cutaway, inspired
by the back-up strips in Doctor Who Weekly – set in the Whoniverse but
without the Doctor – launched in 2019 with Lytton, penned by ex-Doctor Who
script editor Eric Saward. Since then, Cutaway has gone from strength to
strength with creator-owned comics based on Doctor Who characters Omega
and Eldrad, and classic serials like Nightmare of Eden and Paradise Towers. He
talks fandom, comics and befriending his childhood heroes like Dez Skinn and
Philip Hinchcliffe.
