Smell was our first sense. Smell is a long-distance sense, a way of stretching time and finding out in advance what lies ahead. The smell is the sense of memory and desire. In the Andaman Islands, the Ongee people consider Smell not as an isolated sense but as a fundamental cosmic principle. For them, the odor is the source of personal identity.
This episode is based on scientific information and research about the sense of smell. I have only collected the information for a keynote presentation on the topic. Now, it is also available as a podcast episode.
