Attorney Conflict Of Interest In Kohberger Case?

Episode 2,   Feb 02, 2023, 05:19 AM

According to the records from the court and reporting from the Idaho Statesman, Bryan Kohberger's court-appointed public counsel was defending a parent of one of the four victims of the Moscow stabbing before she took on his case. Kohberger is suspected of killing all four of the victims of the Moscow stabbing. On January 5, Anne Taylor, chief of the Kootenai County Public Defender's Office, filed a notice of attorney withdrawal on behalf of the parent in Kootenai County Court. This was the same day that Kohberger made his first court appearance in Idaho, which took place in Latah County. The parent was already found guilty of unrelated criminal crimes and given a sentence. In that case, as well as another one in which the parent is facing two felony charges, the public defender's office decided to withdraw its representation in favor of a local criminal defense attorney who has no connection to either Taylor or the county's public defender's office. In the paperwork filed with the court, the new lawyer is referred to as the "conflict public defender."
