How Do I Respond to Stress? Part 1: Freeze

None of us are void of trauma whether we feel like we’re worthy of calling it that or not. Our brain and nervous system have been taking inventory of our internal and external world since birth and attach meaning and memory to all sorts of experiences. Traumatic memories or stressful memories very much imprint on the brain and nervous system as dangerous, causing us to adapt and behave in survivalist ways. Throughout our lives we respond to stressful events to which our nervous system responds to as well. It’s in these states of reaction we are going to focus on this week as we refer to Polyvagal Theory. This week we focus on the freeze response and how and why this is important for us to look at when it comes from healing from Chronic pain and sensations.
