St. Pete Catalyst "Arts Alive! "podcast w/ Bill DeYoung: Logan Franke of Jobsite’s ‘Frankenstein’ 10-30-23

Episode 6762,   Oct 30, 2023, 12:56 PM

Tampa’s Logan Franke had a small but pivotal role in Jobsite Theater’s 2022 production of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. This year, she’s back onstage with Jobsite in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein – the company likes to keeps things creepy during Halloween season – and she has three small but pivotal roles.

Franke has a behind-the-scenes job, too, and a really important one. A trained special effects makeup designer, she created the scarred-and-chained head ‘n’ body look for the Creature, played in this production by Paul Potenza.

In our interview, she explains how she and Potenza have to be at the theater two hours before every curtain, in order to apply the elaborate – and truly frightening – makeup. It takes nearly that long, after each show, to take it off.

Nick Dear’s adaptation of the Shelley novel is essentially the Creature’s “origin story,” knotted in with a disturbing revenge tale. Potenza is onstage virtually nonstop for the two-hour running time.
