Episode 161
Samantha Barnett

Sammy is the head Nutritionist and Educator of 'Nutrition with Sammy'.  She is also a mum of two young boys and a dual business owner.
Her personal journey, marked by the onset of anxiety and panic disorder from a young age, fueled her mission to understand her own body and the connection between nutrition, mental health, and overall well-being.
Sammy’s holistic approach to health goes beyond nutrition, delving into the intricate web of mind and body that shape our well-being.

With over 20 years of life and clinical experience and a background in entertainment, she has a unique talent for establishing connections with her audience by openly sharing her personal childhood struggles around anxiety and friendships.  She keeps children and adults engaged by demonstrating how their daily health choices can directly impact the aspects of life that truly matter to them.

Sammy believes when it comes to our overall health, while nutrition plays a big role in this, it is so much more.  It’s the biochemical reactions within us, how we absorb, eliminate, move, think and feel.  Quite often it has nothing to do with what we eat but the habits and emotions that lie underneath the surface driving us to those foods.  The constant need for love and attention as humans in order to feel safe.

In this episode, Sammy talks about her desire to help people to have a good relationship with their body, and food.  Diagnosed with Orthorexia and acute liver failure due to the level of stress, Sammy put on herself to "fit in" and work against her own body.

Seeing clients in her clinic who were riddled with anxiety, depression, and poor gut health.  Being bullied by their partners, children, and bosses.  Sammy learned our bodies aren't designed to do what we are doing in today's modern world.  It's playing havoc on not just our endocrine system but everything inside us.

When women are in a constant state of stress and "to do", their bodies aren't digesting foods properly and it doesn’t matter how well they eat and exercise at the gym, if the body doesn’t feel safe, it won’t drop that weight.
It isn’t about pushing us and starving ourselves, it's about reconnecting and slowing down.  We have forgotten how to do that.

Learn why it is important women forget that the one thing we need as humans is love, and we don't know how to give that to ourselves as we have been conditioned to give to everyone else around us.

Discover the importance of breath and how it is central to our overall health.  Making sure you schedule in time to breathe a full belly breath.  This is the best way to tell our body it is safe.
