Jess Riddel, Senior Operations Analyst for the City of St. Petersburg, discusses the Sunrise St. Pete Initiative. The City of St. Pete is set to receive $160 million in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support recovery from Hurricanes Idalia (2023) and Helene (2024). This is one of only two direct allocations in Florida, thanks to strong leadership from Mayor Welch and collaboration with federal partners.
Sunrise St. Pete is a community-driven effort focused on creating a resilient and equitable future. Public input is a key part of this initiative, and opportunities to get involved are coming up. Don’t miss the public event on Wednesday, March 26th at 5:30 PM at the Coliseum in St. Pete, where residents can learn more, ask questions, and provide input about how these recovery funds should be used.
