The BMT: Will this time be different?

As New York grapples with a housing crisis, the push is on to build more apartments, and do it quickly. In Red Hook, a $3.5 billion mega-project promises to deliver 6,000 housing units, and transform the neglected waterfront with a modern port, jobs and public space. The community is split. Some residents see long-overdue investments while others worry about a repeat of the unfinished Atlantic Yards Projects. Battle lines are forming while people study the past to predict the future.
