Chain of custody has been publicly challenged. The viability of forensic genetic genealogy as a prosecutorial tool depends entirely on what that evidence still holds.

FBI veterans are on record stating the ransom motive looks increasingly unlikely. If accurate, investigators are working against a fundamentally different suspect profile than the one that shaped the early weeks of this case.
