Caleb Flynn Court Coverage Day 4: FBI Door-Mark Testing Showed WHAT?!

FBI forensic examiner Sarah Stuchell gave jurors a closer look at the door-mark evidence in Caleb Flynn's trial. Her testimony drew a careful line between a tool being consistent with observed markings and proving that tool actually made them. 

Caleb Flynn is on trial for the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn, and has pleaded not guilty. The defense says Ashley was killed during a home invasion. Prosecutors allege Caleb staged the scene to look like a burglary. 

Stuchell said she tested numerous prying, gripping, and compression tools and compared those results with casts, doorknob parts, strike plates, and markings from the doors. She testified that marks on the door frame and marks created during FBI laboratory testing were consistent with a hammer seized from the Flynn home. 

That finding stopped short of identification. Stuchell testified that the testing was inconclusive as to whether the tools examined could be determined to have made the marks on the doors. Her report therefore did not identify a specific tool as the source of those marks.
