What Jim Bob Duggar Told the Prosecutor When She Asked About Josh

Josh Duggar was convicted on federal charges involving illegal material depicting minors. Prosecutors described it as among the worst they had encountered. And his mother Michelle wrote the judge a letter calling Josh “tender-hearted” and asking for the family to be reunited.
His father Jim Bob took the stand at a pretrial hearing and fought to keep Josh’s prior conduct with minors out of the record. He refused to answer questions. He was combative with the prosecutor. The judge later described him as reluctant to testify against his son.
This is not about parental love that can’t let go. This is about a theological framework that makes letting go doctrinally impossible. The Duggar family’s support for Josh follows the architecture of their faith: forgiveness is not optional, loyalty is covenant, and the greater the sin, the greater the family’s obligation to stand in the gap. The one Duggar who chose the evidence over the framework paid for it with the family.
