Why Is Lindsay Clancy The Only One Who Answers For This?

Lindsay Clancy is suing her doctors. Her husband is suing her doctors. If a civil jury agrees the treatment caused what happened, those providers write a check. Lindsay is still the only one who answers for it in a criminal courtroom. 
She's charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan, at their Duxbury, Massachusetts home on January 24, 2023. She's pleading not guilty by reason of insanity. She's a former labor and delivery nurse who says she begged the medical system for help for weeks and was handed a stack of prescriptions instead. Prosecutors say roughly three months before the killings, she typed something about her older children into her phone, a note read aloud in court. She's permanently paralyzed after going out a second-story window the night her children died. 
Criminal defense trial attorney Bob Motta, host of Defense Diaries, joins Tony Brueski to argue out what the state is actually chasing here. What does a life sentence accomplish for a woman who will carry this for the rest of her life either way? Whether a jury can understand that a person can be completely detached from reality and still function well enough to send a text message is the question underneath everything else. If she's found not criminally responsible, she doesn't go free. Massachusetts sends her to a locked state psychiatric hospital with periodic reviews, and she's already been in state custody since 2023. 
Jury selection began July 20 in Plymouth Superior Court. Three children never got a say in any of this. Almost nobody is arguing about them.
